Nethack 3.2.0 for Windows CE unofficial beta release 3

This is an unofficial beta release 3 of Nethack 3.2.0 port for Windows CE.

Read the instructions and notes before downloading.

Note: this project has been discontinued. The sources are available below for anyone interested in further development.

What is Nethack?

It's a legendary game. The official site explains this with great detail.

Requirements for this port

• a Windows CE 2.0 device with a fixed-width True Type font installed.
• approximately 2 MB of free memory
• keyboard (!)

General notes about the port

• The only way to quit the application is with Nethack's Q-command. There is no window close-button.

Installation instructions

Extract the zip and copy the files on your Windows CE device and place them in same directory.

(Configure the taskbar to autohide for more screen space.)

Run nethack.exe.

(beta 2 zip-packets had some annoying crc-errors. These should be clean.)

You will need Visual C++ 5.0 or later and the Windows CE Toolkit for Visual C++ to build the sources.

Fixes in beta release 3

• No need to tap the screen to view status lines. They're visible at all times. The map is scrolled automatically when needed.
• Graffiti and Oracle -messages are loaded and viewed correctly.

• files can be places in any directory
• save and restore works
• level files are removed in exit
• backspace works
• screen output is much faster
• help choices work
• items can be selected
• spell list is shown correctly
